Exam Guidelines

Performance evaluation situations, such as exams and tests, usually have a number of guidelines to follow. It is your responsibility to be aware of these guidelines and adhere to them fully.

Exam day

Before coming to an exam location, take care of all the necessities so that you will not have to worry about incoming phone calls, the need to use the restroom during the exam, borrowing a calculator or other materials from other students, etc. These can give rise to suspicion, thus it is better to avoid them.

Fatigue and distractions

During an exam, if you need to pause for a moment to take a break or think about a question, look in the direction of the instructor, toward the front of the classroom, or away from other students. Looking at other students or looking away from the instructor can be misconstrued as looking at someone else's exam. Similarly, fidgeting with your clothes or reaching into your book bag during a closed book exam can arouse suspicion.

Check Your Understanding

What types of exam guidelines may my instructor have?

Your instructor may have some guidelines on which books, materials and devices you can or cannot use during an exam. It is important for you to know those guidelines and follow them closely.

Handing in your exam

When submitting your completed exam, hand it directly to the instructor so that the instructor is aware that you turned in your exam.
