How Students Commit Academic Dishonesty

Instructors should familiarize themselves with how students cheat, so they can take steps to prevent and deal with it. In the first section, the terms cheating, fabrication, falsification and sabotage were defined. This section provides examples of exactly how students cheat, fabricate, falsify, sabotage and plagiarize. Even though all four of the following terms are types of cheating, faculty should understand the differences between them and be aware of how these specific actions may play out in their classrooms.

  • Cheating
  • Fabrication or falsification
  • Sabotage
